EGI-CC work

The EGI Engage Competence Centre for EISCAT_3D addresses the EISCAT_3D user portal.

In the EGI CC we have concentrated on implementing the DIRAC portal for EISCAT data. We collaborate with DIRAC developer Victor Mendez at the University of Barcelona.

The DIRAC service consists of:

  • Storage element: Python software running at EISCAT HQ
  • File catalogue: Database running at CESNET (?) Czech Republic
  • DIRAC service and GUI, running on EGI resources at Cyfronet, Poland. Will have a dedicated virtual server.
  • VOMS user management, using the PERUN service at CESNET

The DIRAC service is accessible with the DIRAC CLI or through the online
prototype DIRAC portal for EISCAT data

This instance is under development and being actively debugged. The EGI RT ticket system is used.

Brief usage howto

  • Install the DIRAC CLI tools from the DIRAC site.
  • Get an X509 certificate from your authority (usually university IT department)
  • Install the certificate in your browser
  • Register in Perun
  • Ask a VOMS manager (e.g. Carl-Fredrik) to add your user to VO groups you have access rights to (usually your EISCAT associate country and common programme data)
  • Go to the Prototype DIRAC portal
  • Go to Secure connection (bottom right; may have to click twice with selection of certificate first time)
  • Menu (bottom left) -> Upload proxy and follow instructions. It is best to use the CLI. One proxy per VOMS group has to be uploaded, e g

    dirac-proxy-init -M -U -g eiscat_SW
    dirac-proxy-init -M -U -g eiscat_common
  • Select VOMS group for download rights (bottom right)
  • Menu -> EISCAT File catalog
  • File list: Select a file directory, right click, Set as start path
  • Search window (left): add any search specifications, Submit
  • Results (bottom right): select files, download or submit job
